Personal History:
In the middle of the 1600s, Joost's Dutch family moved to South Africa and became successful farmers. Joost himself was born in 1651 in South Africa. He had a happy human life learning farming (wheat and wine) and surviving the hardships of life in colonial South Africa. A trip to Europe with a shipment, led to Joost meeting Cade Tenebroso. The result was Joost's life changed forever.

He remained in Europe for a long time, not overly liking his new state of existence. Eventually though, he decided he needed to do something. He returned to South Africa and settled there and began to from an African empire for the Tenebroso family. He had managed his human family's holdings from Europe and took on an actual presence at his old plantation. He enlarged these holdings, moved financially into other parts of Africa and even took on diamond mining for the Tenebroso. The Tenebroso family tentacles now stretch all over Africa thanks to Joost.

For years he has kept a low profile, so much so that most of the family don't really know him, some probably don't even know he exists, although a steady stream of finances come from South Africa to New Orleans on a regular basis, along with some lovely diamonds.

Since the loss of the king, Joost has decided to make his way to New Orleans and take a more active role in the family. He thinks the family deserves him as king. He doesn't really believe he has a chance at it, but he's giving it a try. To announce his arrival, he sent a small packet of diamonds to each member of the council.

Joost has a gift for languages and learns them easily. He speaks English, Dutch and many African dialects. He has strong financial skills and it takes him a long time to trust anyone. He has a love for Africa, but oddly enough hates the heat and sun there. He loves the ocean and the jungles. Africa is an odd place for a vampire to settle, but Joost has found it to be quite lovely.

He has no bonded partner and this is another reason he has made the journey to New Orleans. He has had women in his life of various colors and nationalities, but no one has ever touched his heart. He thinks it's because he doesn't usually let himself get involved. He'd like to change that.

Other likes are travel, adventure, mystery, reading, all things Dutch, riding camels, hunting and meeting new beings. He thinks he'll enjoy the politics of the family although he's been away from that in the past. He's well able to defend himself and is efficient with a blowgun, deadly efficient.
