A former Marine, Gabriel's wolf nature made it easy for him to be a solider. He responded to Pack hierarchy, his senses were better than any on his unit and his strength and endurance were unmatched by the humans on his team. Because missions required extended time together with a single unit, Gabriel's true nature became hard to hide. His teammates only found it funny and then ragged on him for lying when he finally told them. Eventually he bit and turned all four of them, turning his unit into a specialized and highly efficient team.

When a mission gone wrong got all but two of them killed, the remaining members were deemed too unstable after they attacked the med-evac come to deliver them back to base for treatment. The small pack of five had suffered severed bonds and the remaining two werewolves were left reeling, attacking blindly. His last Pack member was put down in the melee. Forcibly sedated, Gabriel thankfully managed to keep from turning. He was discharged from service shortly after, all honors bestowed.

He returned home to West Virginia, married a pretty blond, and tried to get on with his life. The nightmares and his sharp sense of loss wouldn't let him. When his haggard wife found out she was pregnant, she was thrilled. Then Gabriel shifted one night in his sleep, nearly killed her and the unborn child, and managed to leave scars across her arms. He was forced to explain what he was and watched his wife recoil in revulsion from him. She told him she didn't want the child - who would likely be a wolf - and she didn't want him.

She brought the child to term, delivered him and then left town. Thane was left with an infant werewolf and a town of suspicious neighbors. He picked up and moved to Florida where he raised his son, Andrej, to the age of five before the Pack that was settled in Florida started to resent the presence of another strong, possible Alpha on their turf. He moved on to New Orleans and found a welcoming Pack there, though he retained his distance and did not join them. He allowed his son to interact with them until he came of age, then joined the Pack himself.

Two years later Gabe would be wearing an Outcast symbol burned into his neck, new claw scars on his back, estranged from his son, and kicked out of his Pack. That Pack was destroyed by Vampires shortly after and he managed to save his son from destruction. Gabriel retreated to the Bayou and maintained somewhat civil relations with all but the vampires in the city - and the few fights he's gotten into with them ended up with dead vampires so they've learned to be wary of him.

He has never told a soul what Pack Law he broke in order to be branded an Outcast.
